How did this craft teacher and plant lover get more than 100,000 Instagram followers?

I love this! This is a great post.
I’m reblogging this as I absolutely love flat lay pictures. They are so pretty.

Michael Perry - Mr Plant Geek

“What do you think might be on the average person’s list of favourite things? Avocado toast? A phalanx of likes on the facebook? Their cat? Sounds legit. Well it seems that seeping into the subconscious of a truckload of folk right now are… plants. ‘Pffff’ some might say ‘you can stick your cotoneaster down your cropped trouser leg, botany is well dull’. WELL, read on, cos it ain’t…”

Emma Mitchell is a well-known Instagrammer… Although, she is incredibly modest, despite having a following that get her a free Range Rover (probably..) Emma has been sweet enough to guest blog here on the Mr Plant Geek website, and tells us why plants are big right now..

“A couple of years ago my IG (that’s what us wannabe millenials call Instagram) was mostly pictures of our dog wearing fairy wings and an occasional suggestive parsnip from up the farm shop. I teach…

Roda’s Questions for me:

1) Paper or Plastic?

Paper! Plastic is the evil of the environment and I try not to use any. I avoid food that is packaged too much in plastic and I recycle all. Paper can be composted!

2) If you could transform into any animal, what would it be?

Great question! It would have to be my dog! I would love to see my world through her eyes.

3) Who is your historical soul mate?

That’s a tough one. There are so many figures from history that I admire but one that is my soul mate? How about Tsarina Alexandria of Russia who died in 1918…..I think I just want to wear her clothes! Is that bad?

4) Are you a city mouse or a country mouse?

Country mouse without a doubt. Give me trees, flowers, fields and wildlife any day!

5) What is your favorite vegetable?

I love lots of vegetables so I would have to name the ones I don’t like? I don’t like artichoke or red onions.

6) Favorite book?

So many choices……I’ve recently read The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck which I missed when devouring the classics in my late teens. My daughter is taking English Literature and I am enjoying reading some of the books on her reading list! I think my favourite would have to be a children’s book though -The Gruffalo perhaps.

7) Why do you write?

Because I love it! I really didn’t think I would take to it as much as I have. After 7 months, that feeling hasn’t gone away – the one where an idea excites me!

My Questions:

  1. If money was no object, where would you go next on holiday?
  2. What makes you happy and why?
  3. What is so neat about your blog?
  4. What would you do on a “perfect” day?
  5. What would you say was the turning point in your life so far?
  6. What motivates you to continue blogging?
  7. What are your plans for the summer?

I am celebrating having 1000 followers too this week (now at 1124)  so I’m thrilled that people are enjoying my blog! Thank you so much everyone! You are all awesome!

#MyGloriousGardens Linky Round up July 2017.

#MyGloriousGarden Linky
Well, here we are and it’s the July #MyGloriousGardens Link party! I know that some of you had to wait to link up but it was worth it as we had 14 linkers this time! This is brilliant and I thank each of you for supporting the linky. I hope by linking that you had or found some new blogs to read and admire. I love finding another blog that is inspirational or a post that is a great read over a cup of coffee.

I had to round up earlier than I would usually as I realised that the weekend was crazy busy with my son’s hockey so I hope you all don’t mind!

As you know, this Linky is to celebrate all garden photos and posts. Anything garden related can be posted. This week it was so lovely to see some garden posts from parents as well as our lovely posters that love to visit or have their own Glorious Gardens! I have decide to keep the Link party for a monthly event so that we can all enjoy our gardens! Feel free to use the #MyGloriousGardens on your social media posts though as then I can find you and comment. It would be lovely to grow this community on Instagram.

As a thank you, I don’t tend to have a favourite but comment on each post. In that way, I hope you all get a few more readers to your blogs. Just a little polite reminder to please comment on as many other linkers posts so that we build our community and spread the blog love.

Sprout and Sprig

Lacey posted 2 posts this time. One about her hens with crazy names (Wilhem von Cocklespurs!!) and another about using garlic scapes in her cooking. I must admit that I have never heard of Garlic Scapes in the UK…have I missed something here? yes, it looks like I have, as the sauce for pesto looked delicious! Thank you Lacey! Lacey is doing up an old farmhouse like me so I think we have much in common.

Gardening Ltd

Hello to Ann who posted about Kalanchoe plants. She is from South California and so these beautiful plants are to be found in her garden. It’s much too cold here in the UK but you may have seen them sold as house plants. They are very pretty little plants and so delicate! Thank you Ann. I hope you can post again next month.

I have to confess that I am an avid reader of Annette’s blog and personally asked her to join this time! Thanks so much Annette! I love this post about a Bloombox subscription service that looks very tempting indeed! Do take a look if you haven’t already! Plants….delivered to your home! What more could you ask for!

Watching the Daisies

You know that by reading some blogs you know the person? Well that’s what it is like when I read Brigid’s blog. Her post about Bloom, Ireland’s Chelsea equivalent was soooo lovely with stunning photos! Do pop over to her page for a better look. She also has a book…..

All things Spliced

Nicola is a new linker too…hello and welcome! I love that she linked a post about introducing her toddler to gardening. Start them young she says! I couldn’t agree more! It helps that her baby boy is so cute with his watering can! I remember my daughter at this age doing the same thing. It’s lovely to see young children interested in their garden and growing plants.

Hello again Shannon! Lovely to have you. Shannon has been posting about her beautiful garden which has changed so much since we last linked up! Shannon is an inspiring gardener as it’s not always easy for her but her dedication is for all to see. Thank you Shannon for linking again. I hope to see a new post next month too.

Stone Cottage Adventures

Welcome to Marci! Another lovely blogger from the US. Again, Marci lives in an old house and has a fabulous blog about crafting, gardening and her daily adventures. Her post is about creating a fabulously cute fairy garden; something I will be doing in the old house garden in the future! I have made something similar with a class at school once so there is no excuse for me now! We hope to see you again next month, Marci.

30 Days of Wild Parenting

Lovely to see Joshua again this month! Joshua is a teacher like me and also a Daddy. His blog is another I read often because he loves nature and wildlife as well as being an Early Years teacher, like me! This post was about different books he enjoyed. I liked the mindfulness one in particular.

Cady has been “holding the fort” for me whilst I write reports! She has been busy blogging using the #MyGloriousGardens so has posted 2 posts this time. I have to admit that my favourite was definitely the one from The garden of Ellen Terry and I can see why Cady loves the garden so much here! It is a perfect cottage garden and so pretty! Thank you Cady and I hope to see more stunning garden posts through Instagram.

Candelo Blooms

Jane and I chat over the internet about her roses! Her garden is absolutely stunning so I was so pleased she joined us this time! I think I have nagged her enough! This post is about books that she has found inspiring. Thank you Jane for these great choices. I hope you can link one of your roses posts next month.

A Celebration of Flowers

I love taking close-up photographs of all the flowers that are growing in the old house garden. Here are some of the best shots. You can click on the photo to see what’s the flower is called. There is one that I’m unsure of!

I’ve got a Blogger Recognition Award! Whoop Whoop!

Wow! I’ve been nominated for my first Blogger Award bt a fellow Blogger and I’m super excited!

Thank you to “I’m a horrible mum and you are too!” for the nomination! Here is a link to her site:

Since I’ve been nominated, here are the rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 other bloggers for this award.
  • Comment on each of their blogs, letting them know they’re nominated and linking back to this post.

How My Blog Started:  My blog got started because I love writing but I had never had the confidence or time to make a start. I have to admit that the technology bit scared me too! I saw that other people I knew were blogging and were enjoying it, so I thought, Why not? We moved house last year and I wanted to document the changes we made to the house and garden. I then started to make lifestyle and parenting posts just from my own experience and these were popular. I’m just going with the flow at the moment to see where this blogging thing takes me. I still work as a teacher and am a mum too so I am super busy! Blogging is my way of doing something for me.

#1 Piece of Advice to New Bloggers:  Write what YOU love. Don’t be swayed by STATs or how many people are reading your posts. That is not the point of blogging.

#2 Piece of Advice to New Bloggers:  Your blog will evolve and that’s ok too. I’m always playing around with the look of mine or the kind of posts I write. It will find its own niche.
